Cockatoo Island's historic houses are the perfect location for a Sydney getaway. Enjoy harbour views and island living in beautifully restored rooms fitted out with all modern conveniences.
Building 24 Houses
Each four-bedroom duplex is available for holiday stays, perfect as a peaceful and atmospheric retreat from city life and just a quick hop from Circular Quay. Perched on the upper plateau in a leafy part of the island, they are surrounded by heritage gardens and have stunning views of the harbour at sunrise and sunset. These two charming Federation houses were once home to Cockatoo Island's medical officer and engineering manager when the island was a busy shipyard.

- Each house sleeps up to 10 people (three king beds which can be split into singles, one queen bed and one sofa bed)
- All linen and towels supplied
- Three flat screen TVs, CD player, two DVD players and board games
- Self-contained kitchen including oven, stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, toaster, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware
- Each house has one large bathroom plus two toilets
- Portable fans
- Iron, ironing board, washing machine, washing line and dryer
- Hair dryer
- High chair and cot (for hire)
- Access to garden, balconies, BBQ, an outdoor setting with chairs for eight people and outdoor citronella candles
- All houses are serviced weekly. Additional servicing is available on request at extra cost
- Short-term and overnight boat berthing is available at the Camber Wharf at the southern side of the Island (rates upon request).
House Conditions
- Weekday check-in is from 3.00 pm and check-out is up to 11.00 am.
- Weekend check-in is from 3.00 pm on Friday and check out is up to 4.00 pm on Sunday.
- Please advise if you are arriving after 6pm
- A 20% deposit is required with balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival.
- Cancellations can be made up to 6 weeks prior to arrival and the deposit will be refunded less a $130 administration fee. Sorry no refunds within 6 weeks of date of arrival.
- The listed price is based on occupancy of three bedrooms (maximum six people). Additional beds will incur an extra charge: fourth bedroom $70 per night (minimum two nights); sofa bed $50 per night (minimum two nights).
- Each house can accommodate a maximum of 10 people.
- A minimum stay of two nights applies at all times.
- A $50 nightly surcharge applies for bookings that include Australia Day (January 26th), Good Friday to Easter Monday and Labour Day (first weekend in October).
- A credit card bond of $500 for a weekday/weekend booking and $1,000 for a weekly booking is required for all bookings.
- Keys are obtained from the Accommodation Office, located behind the Muster Station Visitor Centre at the Parramatta Wharf.
- Houses are only for the residential use of booked occupants. No functions, events, ceremonies or parties to be held in the houses without prior consent of the Harbour Trust.
- No smoking permitted in houses or on balconies. Please use the garden area for smoking.
- Although alcohol is not permitted in the campground, those letting the historic houses are allowed to bring alcohol in moderate quantities.
- Amplified music is not permitted outdoors.
- Animals (except guide dogs) are not permitted.
Please note finally, staying on Cockatoo Island is a unique experience and we want all visitors to enjoy their stay. Please remember that the island is open to the public, including campers staying overnight.
